Surrounded by yoga mats and 'Good Vibes', Georgia finds out how the studio came to be, and what Kirra has instore for 2016.
G: How much time do you spend at Good Vibes versus your art studio?
K: 50 / 50, It’s a bit like having two full time jobs. It’s taken months to work out a routine, but now I have dedicated art studio days and Good Vibes days, and it’s working out really well. I have an art show coming up in Brisbane in August, so I really need the time in my art studio.
G: How many people have you seen through Good Vibes since you started?
K: We’ve had 1500 new clients over the last 6 months, and we have a very high retention rate. We are offering a really complete experience, we set out and clean up all the props so you can just leave straight after class and not have to worry about anything. We mop the floor after each session and only use really high quality materials. The quality of the space is really important to us.
G: A lot of thought has gone into the building and studio design; did you work on the design yourself?
K: Yes, I did all the design along with my friend Leo, who is an architect. I also had some of my friends help design the furniture, including Greg Hatton who designed the studio stools.
G: Were selecting the right materials for the space important to you?
K: Yes, definitely. For the flooring in the studio we have used cork, which is a really sustainable material, as they don’t have to chop a tree down, instead they just remove the bark to make the cork. Cork is also really soft on your joints, and it’s sound absorbing which is really important. We also have hydronic heating, which is sustainable and much healthier for you, and the ceiling is of ply from sustainable Queensland plantations.
G: Our Boat Hobes in Blush and your Good Vibes space are basically a match made in heaven!
K: I know! I love Blush and the colour works so well in here.
G: Have you travelled much for work recently, and is there much travel coming up?
K: Not recently, I am focusing on my work in Australia at the moment, and with the new space here, and my exhibition coming up in August in Brisbane there hasn’t been much time for travel.
G: Are there plans for Good Vibes studios 2, 3 ad 4?
K: Yes! I can’t wait to renovate another space. I loved renovating this space. The building used to be a candle-making factory, it was a pure shell - with wax everywhere, we fitted it out completely.
