Erik Hanson, Photographer

We chat to #hobesguy and photographer Erik Hanson about Brooklyn, travel and life on the road.

Describe a typical day in the life of Erik Hanson.
Wake up, put on Hobes, get coffee. Then get dressed and get started early on whatever I'm working on. I’m always in the middle of some sort of online course or lesson and that stuff is easier to focus on in the morning. Then by the afternoon I realize I’ve been a complete loner all day and start messaging people to see what’s going on.

You grew up in the Pacific Northwest outside the city -how has your style maintained/changed since living in NYC?
It’s always been pretty simple but since being in New York it’s probably simplified even more, 3 colors and a couple pairs each of my favorite jeans or pants. I’d like to think I’ve gotten better in my wardrobe decision making but I probably have my girlfriend to thank for not looking like I’m still a college student in LA.

What’s your favorite part about living in Brooklyn?
Good friends and Seamless.

It seems like you travel a lot for work. What are some tips you’d share for making life easier on the road whether packing-related, etc?
Limit your packing decisions, get a good roller bag, and don’t tell anyone you’re in town unless you know you have time to see them.

Where’s the next place you’d go if you were traveling for pleasure?
Seems weird to say I’d go back to somewhere but I’d go back to Tokyo or Patagonia. There’s too much to see in both places.

Apart from your “day” job we know you’re a musician. What’s your go-to outfit when you’re performing?

Whose album holds the record for most “plays” during your travels?
This year its been Floating Points, ‘Elaenia’. Over and over.

Words to live by?
Be nice and say thanks.

Erik wears The Men's Hobe in Tan.
